Re: Lich's Mirror Deck Ideas

And here I was actually going to suggest Fractured Identity , to play with Crafty Cutpurse , and then spend 15 minutes arguing about token ownership because the rules were changed very, very slightly very recently in such a way that those interact the way you would want them to, where you'd get a Mi...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

-having an ally will dramatically improve your chance to win regardless of the rev -the notion thief will likely die without a deal, either from a random board wipe or because the stp player sees it as his only out -the stp player's correct play is not to take the deal if offered I mean, if you as ...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

I wasn't criticizing your use any more than his, but there has been a general theme in this thread of numbers being thrown around to support an argument, or as I said before quantify intuitive feelings on a situation, and then called out as nonsense. I'm just calling it all out as not reflective of...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

I think all reasonable people can agree that all percentages posted here in reference to perceived chances of winning are complete %$#%$#% pulled out of a posters ass to support their arguments. All of them, whether they are nla nice fat round 50/50 or 25/25/25/25, or more complicated 35/15/5 or wh...

This set looks fun for other people. I look forward to my opponents getting new toys. Otherwise, there's a couple things for my legends banding deck and not much else.

Cool, featured primer. You should probably steal the gif with incense smoke.
Oh man, I missed that! Good call, will do.

Sidenote: the first post here has been updated with all the changes I've been talking about for weeks so that the feature would be current.

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

Let's go to the tape: "Ignoring the biggest problem is wrong 100% of the time. Something that benefits a single opponent can benefit you as well so long as the opponent benefiting isn't your biggest obstacle." Attacking anyone except the biggest threat is benefiting that player (if you're...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I'm sure all this is a concern in cEDH, but for how the vast majority of the players play the format, even Lab Man really isn't that much of an issue. Most players don't care about the impact that cards make in cEDH, or build in that way. I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying, and I ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

People tend to vastly overrate the frequency at which alternate win cons are going to be a problem. I remember how Simic Ascendancy was supposedly going to need pre-emptively banned. Heh. This one is a little less unjustified a worry. Laboratory Maniac is the easiest alternate win con in the format...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

How is that how you're reading what I said? I'm honestly baffled. I think I've been very clear that whether I'll attack someone is dependent on the board state, and very much not arbitrary. Deciding to never attack anyone unless they're my #1 threat - that's what sounds arbitrary to me. You're real...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

Then we've reached an impasse. I agree that my preferred target would be the biggest threat, but as long as the table is somewhat balanced I will absolutely attack soft targets if the preferred target is going to cost me too many resources, so long as I think I'll be able to finish them later. I'd ...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

This part of the conversation might be an impasse because I don't think I can keep going without a consensus on this point. Well, I'm not going to give you a consensus on that point. Pot shots at players just because they are the softest target is bad politics. Like, there are certainly considerati...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

We aren't talking 1v1. More of that 1v1 thinking. Something that benefits a single opponent can benefit you as well. You've said so yourself. I'm not talking 1v1, you're talking 1v1v1v1, and games don't play out 1v1v1v1. Level playing fields are a minority of the time, but even in a level playing f...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

The kozilek player has, to my thinking, 5 options. 1: agree, get hippos, smack someone else, we both benefit. 2: disagree - whether for good reasoning or not - I kill his kozilek, we both lose out. 3: refuse to answer, same as #2, we both lose out. 4: agree, get hippos, attack me anyway, I hurt him...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

I have played against skilled opponents who outsmarted me or made my life very difficult when playing Phelddagrif. Usually they'd be very careful about any deals and really push me to make deals that weren't as optimal for me as I wanted. "I'm never dealing with you ever" has not typicall...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

If they're the most powerful then they've often got 2-3 other players trying to hurt them. Sometimes that means removing their stuff to reduce their power and put someone else in the lead. Sometimes it means attacking them until they're dead, especially if you don't have removal. It happens frequen...

But, I thought this was an interesting comment. Not because it isn't a legitimate situation, but because you dying means the things you exiled with Sphere stay exiled. You could have died and those things would not have come back. If it was Deputy of Detention then it would work how they thought it...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

Very, very high probability? Really? I have a hard time buying that. Usually the person being killed isn't the one in last place, it's either the most powerful player, or whoever represents the biggest threat to the most powerful player. Now sure, if one player is very far ahead, than it's probably...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

Now certainly, there are times when it's correct for someone else to save you without any kind of deal, and that's great when that happens. But there are other times where someone might only be willing to save you if you're willing to do the thing they want, something that you wouldn't normally do....

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

A lot of that will come down to the reputation the player offering the deal has built. I can see Dirk's style of dealmaking working very well in an established playgroup if the deal maker proves reliable. Establishing a track record that your deals will increase your chances of winning, but only (o...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

In the example provided, if people have played against the Phelddagrif deck at all, they could be pretty confident that it wouldn't play any reanimation (and that sheoldred would be a weak target anyway since the deck plays no creatures). Also I didn't say that P4 was out of answers, but simply did...

Re: What would be your reaction to this play?

Let's say the estimated odds of each player winning are as follows: Sheoldred resolves: P1 has 35%, P2 has 20%, P3 has has 20%, P4 has 25%. Sheoldred is countered: P1 has 26%, P2 has 19%, P3 has 25%, P4 has 30%. The problem is that this chart doesn't exist. Even if it were theoretically possible to...

how so? If you happen to use Breach before Mirror of Fate, you'll likely have a full exile pile to play with. You can use Breach to recur Mirror of Fate, which effectively builds Doomsday the second time you use Mirror. And if you're really cheeky, you can cast an instant from graveyard in response...
