Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Yeah, or finding a home for the card. For example, the last SCD over on mtgthesource was about Thran Turbine . People tried to slot it into an existing shell or strategy. Copy all, thanks. Maybe a Mod can add definitions of this and other niche terminology (I just noticed MCD - Multi-card discussio...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

What is "SCD?" - I've checked what I can find in help files, primers, etc - but I can't find anywhere "SCD" is defined. - Is this some hold over from the old forums, or some MtG jargon I should know, but don't. - It seems to be used in many thread titles, but I don't see a patte...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Silent Arbiter

I think the only place I still run Silent Arbiter is in Exalted.dek. Really, any deck that wants to only attack with 1 creature at a time, or force the aforementioned blocking mismatch could, at least, consider this. As a general ward against combat, many better alternatives have already been mentio...

Re: Ideas for a bodyguard deck

My first thought would be a Boros combat tricks deck. Goad and other things that prompt attacks, some instants for messing up combat math, maybe even things like Fumiko the Lowblood if you really want more combat. I would probably recommend Tajic, Legion's Edge , but you could easily lean more towar...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Total War

Sunday, November 28th, 2021; Total War Total War When you have players that just want to draw cards and play with themselves, rather than actually win. Similar to Angel's Trumpet and the aforementioned War's Toll . I think the decks that want this kind of effect benefit from having enough variation...

Re: Banding commander

The hundred-handed example is weird. Here's the reference: 702.22k During the combat damage step, if a blocking creature is blocking a creature with banding, or both a [quality] creature with "bands with other [quality]" and another [quality] creature, the active player (rather than the d...

Re: Banding commander

Bands with other legends actually is better, in some ways, than banding, although the upside will usually be moot. Bands with other legends allows any number of your legends to join the band as long as one of them has the ability, in contrast with regular banding which only allows one non banding c...

Re: Who here lost their deck building mojo with all the new cards coming out?

Short answer: Yes. Not very much new deck building - just some adjustments to the favored decks with some final new cards. I had to sell damn near everything to see the light again. Decision paralysis is a mean and salty %$#%, but a good limitation or two keeps it away. Now that I'm down to one deck...

Re: Banding commander

So I keep wanting to build a banding deck, just so I can finally completely internalize the rules and explain them forever if nothing else. Plus it's an excuse to buy a Camel . Generally, all the good banding creatures are in GW but there are very few in green. So I have two gut instincts: <snip> A...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Nissa of Shadowed Boughs

Question, if I have Hardened Scales and use her to bring back Spike Weaver , does it get seven or eight counters? Six counters, by my count. Both effects (Weaver's and Nissa's) say it ETBs with the counters, so there is only 1 event to get a HS bonus. 3+2 is five, plus 1 from the scales. Now, if sh...

Re: Need "non-global" suggestions against counter-ramp

Technically global - but really more "anti-counter": I'm a fan of Mana Cache for tables where people are counter happy (with or without ramp). If you want to keep mana open for counters, I'll take the ramp... Also good with Gemstone Array to save the cache counters for later and quite fun i...

Re: Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty - Theorycrafting

Kicker is another thing I'm looking at along those lines. I'm definitely thinking about cost reducers like Krosan Drover , Conduit of Ruin , and Eye of Ugin as a means of acceleration. However, I'm doubtful there's a critical mass of those effects to make it a cornerstone of the deck, but it would ...

Re: Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty - Theorycrafting

This is a card that I'm vaguely surprised isn't more popular. Cascade is pretty good, right? So, I'm working on figuring out how to build an appropriate deck for this and I'm a bit torn. While I know (mostly) what big spells I want to play, I'm not sure what shell fits in this. Traditional draw-go ...

If someone is going to argue that poison should double, where do they stand on Lightning Bolt ? Things don't scale 2x or 0.5x just because starting life is 40. Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Vega, the Watcher

I don't like playing color hate cards on principle. REB is better, true, but I've never played it and never will play it. Concur. I generally avoid color "hate" unless there is a thematic reason to consider otherwise. The only current exceptions I can think of are: All Is Dust in my Mono-...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Vega, the Watcher

Isn't that M. Bison? His original name in Japan (game and manga) is Vega. The character known as Balrog in the US was M. Bison (reference to Mike Tyson). Capcom was forced to change that when exporting to the US - so Bison became Balrog, Balrog became Vega, and Vega became Bison (and they just neve...
