Re: Mono-Color in EDH
I, too, enjoy many monocolor decks. Especially since it allows use of some great nostolgia cards like Gauntlet of Might , Gauntlet of Power , Caged Sun , etc. In fact, the things I would like to see printed that could also encourage more mono-colored decks are cards like Ruby Medallion and Bontu's M...

Re: I'm in a rut and I haven't seen a new commander that really speaks to me in ages.
Should I just shift and join the other degenerate ramp players in 4c Omnath and Golos, sort of a "if you can't beat em, join em"? If that is what you want and would enjoy; then sure... I guess. My point was to reflect and really think about what aspect(s) of Stax you are currently enjoyin...

Re: I'm in a rut and I haven't seen a new commander that really speaks to me in ages.
That's easy. I like stax because if I don't, then someone else will combo win since the vast majority of players don't play enough (or any 🙄) removal. Are you sure that isn't just a rationalization for yourself? It seems to me that there are more ways to disrupt combo than just Stax. Which implies ...

Re: I'm in a rut and I haven't seen a new commander that really speaks to me in ages.
So I think I'm figuring out why I've been apathetic towards building and maybe a bit moody towards the state of the format. I love stax I guess and every time I pick up a deck, I look for ways to lock a game down. I must be real fun at parties I know. So what can I do, what can I look into, for dec...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Zendikar Resurgent
Very true, though I feel that the number of Token decks that would use ZR if it was ETB would outstrip the number of players packing Hushbringer.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Zendikar Resurgent
I think I would have liked zendikar resurgent a lot more of it keyed off forests only for doubling mana. That's really the thing that craps it up for me is becomes goodstuff instead of a neat mono green tool. At least it is "Cast a creature" rather than "When a creature ETBs..."...

Re: Your top 10 (non-commander) cards
Favorites (alphabetical) Baton of Morale - Because Banding is the best keyword to ever be retired, and we need as much of is as we can get. Cream of the Crop - Good solo without (usually) being the biggest target on the board for removal, and excellent synergies with so many "top of library&qu...

Re: Power Level Model Discussion
Hadn't logged on in a while, so I just saw this. First, thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I like the idea of a matrix, it looks pretty clean though with anything this bulky it's still going to be a bit intensive. The idea of separating out the two axes (deck and intent) and taking each sepa...

Re: Rarely is the question asked, is our children learning?
Whenever I try to do that on Cockatrice, I get greeted with MY DECK IS A SEVEN. Also, I can't imagine you can rule zero your way past MODO's programming, if that's where you're going to get your EDH. Precisely, MTGO primary: where Rule 0 is only "do we play together or not" (if that). The...

Re: Rarely is the question asked, is our children learning?
I feel like keeping it outside the rules allows greater discretion, and because wishes can vary greatly case-by-case, that discretion is needed. The way the format has shaken out, something being "against the rules" generally means the player just has to ask the group online players conti...

Re: Rarely is the question asked, is our children learning?
I don't think Coax from the Blind Eternities (which has both clauses) is breaking the format... That card is legal in Commander, but the "outside the game" aspect of the card simply does nothing in the format. I will still let you get an exiled Eldrazi from exile, though. That was my poin...

Re: Rarely is the question asked, is our children learning?
Didn't answer the poll because "other" wasn't an option. I would like to see "outside the game" allow wishes/learn to pull from exile. So, if you really want that wish-for-a-color-hoser, you'll need to eat a spot in the 99, pack effects to exile it, then wish it up. Otherwise, it...

Re: Swing out = Blow Out - mono white
Might try Selfless Squire in there at some point but trying to avoid stuff I might want to blink since there's no blink, it might be good enough as is I guess though Does it need blink though? A couple Whitemane Lion type creatures would give enough bounce and knowing the squire is back in your han...

Re: The Spinning Wheel of Poop
Really, if you want the ultimate Jank - you should try for a Rainbow Stairwell bad jank deck. What, precisely, is the worst 2 cmc blue card in your collection? Worst 4 cmc black card? etc. On the plus side, it makes cuts fairly easy, since you only compare one to one (same color and CMC) and choose ...

Re: Warhammer 40K, LotR, and other IPs in Magic.
So I was thinking about this topic again and I thought about PK3 cards from way back. Isn't the romance of three kingdoms technically an outside IP too? And isn't it almost kind of worse, considering that it is heavily based in the flavor of, you know, reality and historical figures? There's nearly...

Wallycaine Thanks for the info... Too bad they didn't think of this as an opportunity to make all silver bordered more legitimate. That way people who don't want to deal with it can safely ignore it, while players that are excited by the move can embrace more "outside the multiverse" conc...

Have they officially said these are Black Bordered? Reading the official announcement, ti says they are not silver bordered and that they are not standard legal; but it does not say they are black bordered. I'm sure it's in vein, but I still hope they will have some border other than either silver o...

From the casual perspective, I would not want to play against a Tergrid, God of Fright // Tergrid's Lantern deck. I might be willing to give it one chance if the player limited the shenanigans to mostly "choice" cards like Forbidden Ritual , Choice of Damnations and Shrike Harpy . Things w...

Re: Should banned as commander come back?
I think the entire ban list should just go away. EDH is a very local meta dependent format. Trying to apply a global banlist just seems pointless when each meta is different from each other. Please, no. Pubstompers ruin enough games already. This might be fine for players that have playgroups. But ...

Also, because the excess damage does not need to come from the GWS source, Tims and Tim effects can be used to deal 1 damage to something about to take excess damage; so that when it does, it will have "taken damage from a GWS source." To this, things like Dizzying Gaze can help ping somet...

Re: Color identity is a bad rule and should be removed
I believe the RTR hullabaloo (technical term) was because people wanted extort to mandate a WB CI, since the costs are in the rules for extort, even if the pips only appear in the reminder text on the card. The reminder text was already a thing, but the argument was that Extort should not be treated...

Re: When (not) to run Back to Basics | Blood Moon | Hall of Gemstone?
In 60 card magic, pre-dating the Commander format, the trade off for running a deck with multiple colors was always that your mana base was trickier to work with and more prone to disruption in return to having access to a wider cardpool, versus a 1 or 2 color deck which would be far more consisten...
