Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Edit: I'll add that my personal stance is that Emry or Urza should have been banned outright. Opal was NOT the problem with this deck. And the only reason I bought into it was because of the price drops before people realize this deck is still one of the best things you can be doing in Modern. This...

Re: The Future of Paper Magic by Saffron Olive

He seems optimistic in his article, but it seems like a bleak future to me. But his analysis seems spot-on. There are way fewer constructed events at my LGSs.... I routinely look at 5 different stores and, other than drafts, events are just not firing. Digital Magic is the place to be for construct...

Re: New Format Idea - No Reserve List Vintage

I've never played vintage as a format really before, but I'd assume one of the appeals of vintage is that you get to play with busted cards on the reserve list that you can't play anywhere else, like black lotus , ancestral recall and bazaar of Baghdad . There are probably a lot of cards that are pl...

Re: [Official] State of Pioneer Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Currently, we have a format where fair decks have a fair shot. That's all anyone ever wanted out of Modern, in my opinion. I doubt we can sustain this forever but it's nice while it lasts. I've read some friends saying on twitter that one thing don't like about the format right now is that it's a l...

Re: A very frustrating pre-release.

I think what stands out to me are 2 things. (1) The fact that all of his rounds went to time without a game 3.I feel that maybe say he is intentionally slow playing is a bit extreme but when a person goes to time this many times, it's clearly not his opponents' faults. Maybe speak t the owner about ...

MTGO/Arena Usernames

Took me a while to decide to make this but figured I'd make a thread where we can post our usernames for Arena and MTGO:

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

astrolab is an insane card too but I don't know if it's as bad as opal.

I'd be fine with a twin unban but 3 mana teferi makes the combo so much harder to interact with

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

I remain unconvinced that Opal is the issue. Oko + Veil are absolutely needing to go. Astrolabe SHOULD go. Urza himself, should probably go, but if they hit 3 cards, I dont know if a big ticket like Urza is hit too. I feel that they need to probably ban 2+ cards (3 might be the right umber). Depend...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

As I wrote on Reddit, the Jund pilot also made T8 with zero byes. That's an impressive feat for any GP, let alone when he's running a no-Oko Jund in an Oko world. As for bans, Oko is a guaranteed ban at this point. Another guaranteed ban is something from Urza by a similar rationale to Wizards bann...

I can see this being really good in commander but at that mana cost it seems really win more. although I guess you want an affect like this to be expensive

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

Oh Jund making is nice to see. But I think this cements Oko ban plus something from the Urza deck at the bare minimum. At same time I can't see wizards banning more than 3 cards in one go As I wrote on Reddit, the Jund pilot also made T8 with zero byes. That's an impressive feat for any GP, let alo...

Chandra's parents should probably be Questing Beasts the more I think of it and yeah Lovestruck Beast seems too good to not run mb in this shell. I'll test that build.

Gruul (GR) aggro

I decided to make a thread on this deck since I see a fair bit of decks of this type doing well but there was no thread on it. basically the deck seems to want to utilize t1 mana dork (you get both elvish mystic and llanowar elves ) into either of the "rabble" creatures ( goblin rabblemast...

Rug delver took a backseat. Technically elves, d n t etc. got better, but RUG being less good than UR dekver was the main change. Oko is the new broko, miracles and snow control run him, they have veen on the rise. I remember watching the SCG Player's Championship and Oko decks were everywhere. Mak...

Re: [Unofficial thread] - Theros Beyond Death Previews: Pioneer

Arkmer does not have a home in pioneer right now, but I like that new Thassa is an indestructible conjuror's closet that costs one less, also cannot be countered by stub denial since it's a creature. Maybe someday a competitive blink deck will be created in this format? I will be waiting for that. ...

hard to say... people got them at a high price. And I feel they won't like to sell low unless they're desperate for some quick cash. This is interesting but I'd probably like more if it made X 1/1s instead of an X/1. Still good utility though
