Never played Dwarf Fortress, so I can't comment on that, but the first two cards are really interesting. I like getting the extra value from the carapace. I'm imagining an aristocrats deck, using this to put out Doomed Traveler or something, but the magma crab is way too strong for 3 mana. If you hard mill yourself, you could one shot someone with that.EsperCormorant wrote: ↑1 week agoScuttlerush

SCREAM FOR ME!!!! But I like the designs here, Praya Dubia especially is really cool. I do think that she should get weaker each turn that she isn't controlling something ("put a -1/-1 counter at end step if you don't control a creature you don't own.") but I also see that it might be too wordy at that point.Sporegorger_Dragon wrote: ↑1 week agoFoaming Fiddler

Great flavor, very iconic event to reference and a great bit of matching the mechanics to the flavor. I feel like scry is a very fitting mechanic for a Theros-set card. There's two awkward snarls: the first is the relatively high cost for a card this situational (I'd rather get control of a creature than an artifact or enchantment, which is available around five mana without the legendary restriction, though I suppose in the right set this gets better), and the second is the game's general dislike of scry values 5 and up. Just a bit of a weird realization of a strong concept.chetoos wrote: ↑6 days agoKiora's Nautical Heist

I don't get the planeswalker thing: does it symbolize Mishra empowering Yawgmoth? The permanent black mana ramp is almost presented as a sort of afterthought when it really isn't, and the fact that the token enters untapped means you can immediately follow up with, say, a boardwipe. It's a very under-the-radar card that will sometimes give you a permanent doubling of your mana base and a planeswalker ultimate on the same turn, and I don't know if I like that.Volrath the Risen wrote: ↑5 days agoMishra Embraces Phyrexia

Not holding a GU card for a WUBRG character against you: it's got precedent. A bit of a weird effect: I like the safety valve where you can only get a spell for free if one's already in your graveyard, but the restriction makes me wonder whether this'll be a dead draw too often. And why the not-quite-mill tacked on at the end? This card just doesn't come together for me, unfortunately.void_nothing wrote: ↑5 days agoGarth's Masterful Casting

Some more leylines to complete a potential cycle, I like it! I really like building on the "do a thing, get a bonus" that the already spoiled leyline contributes to. I do think that the blue and green leylines could have their card advantage improved slightly (looting on a potentially 4 mana enchantment feels weak, considering Coastal Piracy), but solid designs. Two-tailed timmy is also a fun story on a card.EsperCormorant wrote: ↑5 days agoLeyline of Mystery

No idea which set this is from, but it's interesting. It's a way better ponder, but it needs you to have a legend out... Maybe cut it down to just draw 1 card, since you already have so much card selection in there.

Between the two Crab Nobles I find Camtscha to be the more interesting one, since it should be a interesting puzzle to get around the +1/+1 counter and continue turning other creatures off. Magista feels more like a Karazikar-type mass goad effect, except with the creature shrinking you don't mind them attacking you sometimes. Kril is a very cool take on the standard Equipment commander, offering a whole lot of protection befitting a hermit crab. Finally, sole Shrimp Topoda pulls between stacking high on him to punch creatures out of the board, and going wide for convoking spells out of your graveyard.chetoos wrote: ↑3 days agospoilers for Another Crab's TreasureShowHide
Legendary Creature - Crab Noble
Undying
As long as This creature doesn't have a +1/+1 counter on it, it has wither.
Bleached - Your opponents can't activate abilities of creatures they control with -1/-1 counters on them.
"Death cannot reach Us with its foul claws... We have locked it far away..."
2/6
I'd love to have a philosophical debate about Kril's color identity later, but this design at least is boros.
Kril, wayward hermit
Legendary Creature - Crab Warrior
Equipment attached to Kril has Umbra Armor
Kril gets +0/+x, where X is the greatest mana value among equipment attached to Kril.
Shell swap - Unequip an equipment with mana value X attached to Kril: Equip target equipment with mana value less than or equal to 1 + X to Kril.
2/2
Can you tell I really like Another Crab's Treasure?
Grovekeeper Topoda
Legendary Creature - Shrimp Druid
Mantis Punch - , : Grovekeeper Topoda deals damage equal to its power to another target creature.
Umami Training - Once during each of your turns, you may cast a non-creature spell from your graveyard. A spell cast this way gains convoke, and mana cannot be spent to cast that spell.
"May your corpse nourish the kelp."

Magista, Tyrant of Slacktide

The teddy bear is from Duskmourn, which technically counts as not being the ten types from Bloomburrow, but does feel odd compared to everyone else. The snow Sheep are a fun add for the usual "random white protection" creature, and backup throws on some extra protection elsewhere. I like the Snail being a take on the extremely slow attacker effect, and think the ward might be useful to defend it, assuming your opponents don't have the allowance to prepare 3 extra mana. Leeches seem surprisingly straightforward for a debuff with lifelink, to be honest, and would be draftable midway through the pack. But my favorite of the bunch is the legendary Monkey(s), and their take on that saying.EsperCormorant wrote: ↑2 days agoFive creatures, five mana values, five colors, five different typelines.

Catdog is a very straightforward way to get a 1/5 and 5/1 without having to use an activated ability, although vigilance and -cost activated ability could work too without getting into blocking tapped shenanigans. The Wolf coming in with an instant-transfer Sheep costume could be useful, and again is an interesting take on a idiom.Volrath the Risen wrote: ↑2 days agoCatdog
